Below are the top highlights of 2017 in each of the four cornerstones of our responsible fashion strategy:

1) RESPONSIBLE SUPPLIERS
  • Textile resale suppliers (497 suppliers)
  • We made 3,595 technical visits to production sites of domestic resale suppliers of Apparel, Footwear and Accessories to ensure compliance with the law and the social responsibility principles we demand from our suppliers when they are contracted. 100% of these suppliers are certified by the Brazilian Textile Retail Association (ABVTEX), which assesses whether they comply with best social and environmental practices;
  • We expanded the technical visits process to international resale suppliers, and to 100% of the suppliers of Renner’s Alchemia beauty products;
  • We improved the process to trace our products throughout the resale suppliers’ chain to verify that Renner and Youcom textile products are being manufactured by accredited companies and meet our requirements;
  • We made an environmental diagnosis of our domestic resale suppliers, and it will serve as a foundation for the environmental assessment of our suppliers in 2018;
  • We created a corporate sourcing sector to unify the strategy for purchasing from resale suppliers—which used to be done by each brand—creating synergies and improving our suppliers’ demand planning capabilities;
  • We created the Supply Chain Executive Office, which connects all links and stages of the cycle of the relationship with our suppliers in order to deliver the right product, at the right time and the right place, in line with our sustainability requirements;
  • Back office administration service providers (1,255 suppliers)
  • We accredited 100% of our civil construction service providers (which include construction companies as such, works management companies, and architecture offices), and conducted 210 technical visits to monitor construction works in Brazil and Uruguay (an increase of 26% year-over-year) to ensure compliance with the best social and environmental practices we demand from our suppliers;
  • We joined the Brazil Green Logistics Program (PLVB), seeking opportunities to minimize our logistics suppliers’ greenhouse gas emissions.
2) ECO-EFFICIENT MANAGEMENT
  • We reduced our electric power consumption at Renner stores by 3.01% (considering the same base of 2016);
  • We developed a pilot project in Rio de Janeiro to use solar power at four Renner stores;
  • We offset 100% of the greenhouse gas emissions of Lojas Renner S.A. (2016 inventory);
  • We recycled 97% of the waste generated by Renner stores and the Distribution Center. *
    * This amount includes waste monitored in kg and does not include furnishings disposed of during store remodeling or organic waste, because we do not have a consolidated quantitative control of this figure.
  • Our brand ranks 11th among the most valuable brands in Brazil in the “Most Valuable Brazilian Brands” survey by Interbrand, with brand value of R$1.3 billion;
  • We created 192 new informational tags for Renner’s and Youcom’s sustainable product lines, in order to raise customer awareness about how these products reduce environmental impacts;
  • We invested R$4.7 million in projects focusing community development and the economic and social empowerment of women in the textile chain, through Lojas Renner Institute, benefiting 12,400 people;
  • We were recognized in several rankings as one of the best companies to work for in Brazil due to our people management practices.

Empoderamento da Mulher

Para impactar positivamente o empoderamento das mulheres na cadeia de valor, a Lojas Renner S.A., o Instituto Lojas Renner e a ONU Mulheres criaram o EMPODERA, programa que prevê investimento em ações com esse objetivo junto aos colaboradores, fornecedores e parceiros. Um dos destaques do EMPODERA no ano foi a criação das primeiras turmas da Escola de Costura do Instituto Lojas Renner exclusivas para refugiadas vindas do Congo, Angola, África do Sul, Nigéria e Togo, buscando promover sua inclusão e empregabilidade.

4) SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTS AND SERVICES
  • We made over 3 million pieces from sustainable raw materials in 2017: 1.6 million pieces using recycled yarn, 194,000 pieces using green fiber (lyocell), and 1.3 million pieces using certified cotton;
  • We made progress in our projects for transitioning into a circular economy:
    • Through EcoStyle—project where customers and employees can dispose of perfumery and beauty product waste for products acquired or not at Renner stores—we collected and sent for proper disposal 29.5 tons of waste.
    • With the goal of promoting awareness in the fashion business, we installed collection bins at 15 Renner stores in five Brazilian capitals for customers to dispose of used clothes. We can then send them back into the production cycle or give them another destination.
  • In partnership with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation (the world’s top benchmark for circular economy) and the University of São Paulo (USP), we created the Eco-efficiency in the Supply Chain Project to minimize the generation of textile waste, and encourage the use of leftovers to make new fabrics to be used in new garments. 390 tons of fabrics were recycled through this program and sent back into the production chain to be transformed in new products;
  • We used recycled raw material in 264 fitting room curtains for Renner and Youcom stores, and 1,180 bags to be used inside Renner stores.
